SPECS FOR THE 2010 MAC PRO PRO
Mac Pro "Quad Core" 3.0 (Original) Specs (Mac Pro, BTO/CTO, MacPro1,1*, A1186, 2113) Any difficulties running lots of plugs (DDR2?)?It could be anywhere from 2006-2008.

It would be nice to have a newer model, but I'm very happy with how well it does work.Īny idea what year it was? Most of the ones I find online are 2006-2007. I put 8 GB of RAM in it and brought it up to Lion and it runs PT 11 very nicely using a Metric Halo ULN-8. I rescued a Mac Pro 1,1 3 Ghz from the trash. I worry though that down the line it may not keep up I plan on picking up another 8 channel ADAT interface down the line, or perhaps a PCI rig given that those would become options for me with a Mac Pro.īut would, for instance, a quadcore 2.66ghz Mac Pro be able to handle 16 inputs through firewire? What about using high sample rates and shorter buffers, how much would they suffer? I also mix entirely ITB using Waves and Softec plugs, and use software instruments (soft synths, SD2.0) quite often, so I worry about multitracking while using multiple plugs and software instruments. Currently I run an MR816x via firewire straight into the iMac, so I imagine that even a low-tier Mac Pro could handle that. There are multiple Mac Pro listings that pop up in the sub-$400 range, but I'm hesitant to make any real choices without knowing exactly what the computers can and can't handle. I currently have a iMac w/ a 3.4ghz i7 that I'm using to run Logic and Pro Tools, but I've been wanting to move the iMac home for use as my own personal computer.

I've been looking at used Mac Pros on eBay, and there are a lot of pretty cheap rigs on there. I could use some advice in choosing a new brain for recording at my band's practice studio.
